Paul and Elizabeth's Adventures in Oz

Day 5, Saturday, August 31, 2002—
Today was a family day. Julie-Ann & Andriya have 4 children: Yasmin; Ruvay, age 26; Milena, 20; and Nikolai, 17. Ruvay is married to Bruce Hardy and they have 3 boys: Lachlan, Griffin & Ethan and a baby girl due November 17.

Today was Milena's 20th birthday and she wanted to celebrate by having a barbeque over at Ruvay & Bruce's home. Ruvay & Bruce live in a neat old Queenslander-style home that is 125 years old and situated on a huge lot. Contrary to popular American belief, Ozzies do not "throw a shrimp on the barbie" at every BBQ. In fact, Julie-Ann says that she can't remember ever BBQing a shrimp! We did have some marvelous marinated beef and chicken and some sausages. And a wonderful caramel cheesecake for dessert(Sue V., you would have been in heaven!)

In the evening, we drove into Brisbane to Queensland University to see Nikolai perform the part of Richard Rich in "A Man for all Seasons" at Old Government House. Nicolai is a member of Next Generation, a Human Life International youth group. The kids did a spectacular job with the play!
